The Time Use Initiative was invited to participate in the Brussels Urban Summit (BUS) 2023, one of the biggest events that bring together international city officers and political representatives to exchange ideas and set priorities for sustainable, affordable, and liveable cities. Although previously unknown, digitalization of municipal services and mobility policies were the ones most commonly identified as time policies by public officials at the Summit.

Happening from the 6th to 30th June, it will host virtual and on-site events aimed at conceptualising the right to time as a new civic right in Latin America. It will count with a conference translated into English on the 20th June. The full programme is available and registrations are open. In order to take part in it, registration is needed.

The Italian city is the World Capital of Time Policies during 2023 and has held a week of debates and citizen events that put time policies on the agenda. The congress involved institutions from the European Time4All project, which were able to make further progress in consolidating the network.

A second topic of time policies compilation has been published and presented. It focusses on tackling a topic of global relevance: “Time, mobility and sustainability: an opportunity to increase resilience”. The Network envisages cities and regions of the 21st century as places designed not to waste people’s time, but to save it. During the event, which counted with 250 participants, representatives from municipalities, metropolises, and regions from all over the world exchanged inspiration cases that help organising time in a more sustainable way.

Barcelona has organised more than 70 activities during its time as World Capital, in order to rise awareness on time policies as a new civil right, which will extend its benefits among society, companies, and the planet.

Experts and activists launch a campaign to increase citizens awareness on the harmful effects of clock changes and wrong time zones. The experts ask the presidency trio of the Council of the European Union to add the topic to the agenda and implement the proposed plan.

Today, the first Spanish exchange forum on time use surveys has been held, with the participation of the European, Spanish, Catalan, and Basque statistical agencies. The conferences seek to create a dialogue between the research world and public policies in preparation for new surveys, planned for 2023 and 2024.

The partnership including the Local and Regional Governments TIME Network has been awarded by the Citizens, Equality, Rights, and Values (CERV) programme from the European Commission. The project, called “Time4All”, aims to foster time policies and ensure the recognition of the right to time as a right for all citizens. 

It includes 20 organisations representing municipalities, metropolises, and regions from Italy, Spain, France, Austria, Germany, Belgium, and Greece.
