The Time Use Initiative takes part in el Vendrell conference “Inclusion and the right to time”

On April 16, the Time Use Initiative (TUI) took part in the conference “Inclusion and the Right to Time”, held at the Teatre Auditori del Tívoli in El Vendrell. The event brought together around 200 participants, including professionals, institutional representatives and local stakeholders, to reflect on inequalities in access to time and promote more inclusive policies.

Throughout the day, time was addressed as a key resource for well-being, autonomy and full participation in social life. Discussions highlighted how unequal access to time particularly affects carers, many of them women, whose opportunities for leisure, education and employment are often limited.

The conference explored the links between time use, social inclusion, gender and disability, emphasising the need to incorporate a rights-based and inclusive perspective into public policies and organisational practices. Special attention was given to the concept of time poverty and its impact on people’s daily lives, as well as to the role of education as a driver of social transformation that can adapt to diverse life situations.

Ariadna Güell Sans, Deputy Director of the TUI, participated in the event, contributing to the debate on how time policies can foster a more equitable, accessible and people-centred society. Her contribution aligned with the broader efforts of the TUI to promote fairer distribution of time and to ensure that everyone can enjoy the right to time.

The conference was organised by the Inclusive Board of the Local Education Plan and the Department of Equality and Feminisms of El Vendrell City Council, building on over six years of collaboration between the municipality and local organisations. This second edition placed a particular focus on the right to time, reinforcing a collective commitment to advancing towards a more inclusive and sustainable society centred on time for life.
