The Time Use Initiative participates in the Bogotá International Forum on Time, ‘Women’s Time: Gender and City Building’

  • A Catalan delegation comprising the Time Use Initiative and leading institutions in time policy in Catalonia — the Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, Barcelona Provincial Council and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area — took part in the Bogotá Forum.
  • The Forum is part of the celebration of Bogotá as World Capital of Time 2025, designated by the local and regional time policy network that brings together some forty cities around the world working to make the Right to Time a reality.
  • The Catalan institutions, the main promoters of the Network, have exchanged good practices and success stories in time policies with Latin American institutions in order to continue advancing in making the right to time a reality at the local and regional levels.
  • Six Latin American cities have joined the Network as a result of Bogotá’s efforts as Capital to promote time policies in the region.

From 23 to 25 of september, Bogotá hosted the international forum ‘Women’s Time: Gender and City Building’, the main event organised as World Capital of Time Policies 2025.

A Catalan delegation made up of the Time Use Initiative and the four leading institutions in time policies in Catalonia — the Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, Barcelona Provincial Council and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area — travelled to the Colombian capital with a clear objective: to exchange good practices and success stories in the field of time policies, especially those that impact care time, mobility, and work and school schedules.

The delegation was made up of Sara Berbel, member of the Time Use Initiative’s Expert Council; Maria Rengel, director of the Feminism and LGTBI Service of Barcelona City Council; and Elisabet Tejero, director of Social Policies and Equality of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, accompanied by a team of technical experts from the institutions.

Sara Berbel, representative of the Time Use Initiative, participated in the session ‘Habitat and time use for women’s rights’. She also spoke at the session ‘Data that transforms. 10 years of the Observatory on Women and Gender Equality (OMEG), which highlighted the key role of data in designing time policies focused on improving the well-being of carers and building fairer and more inclusive cities.

Bogotá World Capital of Time Policies 2025

The Local and Regional Time Network has selected Bogotá as the World Capital of Time Policies 2025, making it the first Latin American city to achieve this distinction. The recognition is based on its transformative action in the field of care time, with projects such as the “Care Blocks”, a benchmark model in the region. Catalan institutions, which are the main promoters of the Network, have supported Bogotá as Capital of Time with their participation.

As a result of the forum, the ‘Bogotá Commitment’ was signed, which gives continuity to the Barcelona Declaration on Time Policies, promoted by Catalan institutions, and which aims to involve public administrations, the world of research and the social fabric in making the right to time a reality. The meeting has encouraged the cities of Medellín, Cale and Popayán (Colombia), as well as the prefectures of Guayas, Pichincha and Imbabura (Ecuador) to join the Network.
