POLICY OBJECTIVE

The Catalan Network for the Right to Time (XCDT, Xarxa Catalana pel Dret al Temps in Catalan) is a public initiative created with the aim of promoting policies that foster improved time organisation, from a gender perspective, in order to enhance citizens’ quality of life. The Network works to advance towards a new culture of time that is fairer, more balanced and more sustainable.

CONTEXT

In Catalonia, patterns of time use are marked by structural inequalities that particularly affect women, as well as certain social groups and territories. Difficulties in reconciling working time, care time, personal time and community time have a direct impact on people’s wellbeing, health and life opportunities. In this context, the right to time has become a key pillar of social justice and effective equality.

POLICY DESCRIPTION

The Catalan Network for the Right to Time aims to serve as a meeting point for all individuals and organisations committed to improving the use of time. Its purpose is to promote a more balanced and fair organisation of time through collective work, knowledge exchange and the promotion of transformative policies and practices.

The Network’s main lines of action are:

  • Networking agents committed to the right to time in Catalonia, recognising and valuing their work.
  • Promoting the implementation of time organisation measures with a gender perspective in companies and organisations.
  • Creating, exchanging and disseminating knowledge, experiences and good practices through talks, conferences and training activities.
  • Linking research with public policies on time use in Catalonia.

The Network currently brings together more than 350 key stakeholders from the institutional, social, economic and academic fields, and acts as a reference space for the promotion of the right to time across the country.

The Catalan Network for the Right to Time is promoted by the Ministry of Equality and Feminism of Catalan Government, with the active participation of public administrations, social partners, organisations, companies and the academic community.

RESULTS

The Catalan Network for the Right to Time contributes to improving social uses of time by promoting public policies, organisational initiatives and innovative practices that encourage better work–life balance, reduce gender inequalities and increase wellbeing and social participation.
